BOARD of SELECTMEN Page <br />MINUTES <br />M IDDAY, MARCH 1 , 1993 <br />Linda Murtha e; Education Facilities Needs Report: <br />Ms. Murtha indicated that the committee is acutely aware of <br />Mashpee's financial situation and has tried to balance their <br />hopes for an excellent educational system while remaining aware <br />of Mashpee's fiscal realities. We need a school in which to take <br />pride in and a community resource in which to take pride in <br />informed Ms, Murtha. <br />Options reviewed as stated in the report include; <br />regionalization an d-t itionin -out students informed Ms. Murtha. <br />Four neighboring towns were asked of regionalization. Three of <br />which responded that this would not be considered under any <br />circumstances related Ms. Murtha. When Bourne realized that this <br />would require building another school, the action was denied. <br />The possibility of year mound education was also explored <br />noted Nis, Murtha. The committee arrived at consensus that this <br />is an ideal change towns should make for educartional reasons, but <br />is not appropriate for high school. education. Year round <br />education was found to he hest suited for elementary students <br />noted Ms. Murtha. <br />Full -day Kindergarten is believed to have long term benefits <br />for our kindergarten students indicated Nis. Murtha. In the <br />future, the state may require full -day kindergarten for low- <br />income students. Nis. Murtha noted that full -day kindergarten <br />rewires twice the number of classroom space as half -day <br />kindergarten. <br />Recommendations s of the committee include; setting aside land <br />now for all future school buildings that right be necessary <br />informed Nis. Murtha and building a high school to he used <br />initially for jr/sr high school students. Ms, Murtha noted that <br />Torn Fu dala was extremely helpful with population trends and build - <br />out information* <br />high school building with proper foresight can he created <br />to become a state of the art facility to serve many different <br />groups in town informed Ms, Murtha, We should not be so hurried <br />in constructing this facility that we make careless mistakes, but <br />the planning must begin now indicated Nis.
