BOARD OF SELECTMEN Page <br />MINUTES <br />MONDA, MARCH 1, 1 <br />Linda Murtha re: Educational Facilities Needs Report: <br />Potential school sites were reviewed with the assistance of <br />the Town Planner informed Ms. Murtha. Criteria for selection <br />included locations near the largest numbers of children, sites <br />large enough to contain more than one school to share recreationar <br />facilities and use of current town owned land noted Nis. Murtha. <br />The proximity to the historical center of town was also a <br />consideration to give the most identity to the town, <br />f the seventeen sites reviewed, two sites appear to be <br />useful for .a -high school and a lower grade level school informed <br />-Ms. Murtha. One potential area is between Meeting House Road and <br />Noisy Hole Road and Rte . 130 informed Nis Murtha, The seconded <br />selected site is located between Rte. 11 and Old Barnstable <br />Road. <br />The report itself fails to confront the state reimbursement <br />issues indicated Nis. Murtha. Mashpee should be high on the <br />priority list since we would be the only community in the <br />Commonwealth required to build a high school for the first time. <br />Ms. Murtha also related that the present reimbursement rate of <br />is extremely low. <br />The committee firmly believes that any new facility which <br />might be built be large enough to accommodate the needs of <br />Mashpee for classroom space and community use indicated <br />Ms. Murtha. Our report does not give consideration as to where <br />and how we will go from here related Ids. Murtha. It is a report <br />comprised of a consensus of six individuals. <br />*The Board agrees that the report is impressive. A workshop <br />meeting will be scheduled at a date to be announced to include; <br />the Board of Selectmen, school Committee, Finance Committee and <br />Educational Facilities Needs Committee. <br />*Selectman Caffyn also recommended to review the town's <br />existing debt and operational costs of the facility. Dr. DeMoura <br />will submit are estimate of -operational costs for the workshop <br />discussion. <br />It was also recommended to consult State Representatives <br />with regards to obtaining a higher rate of reimbursement and <br />priority. <br />
