BOARD of SELECTMEN Page 2 <br />MINUTES <br />fi_ r JUNE 14, 1901 <br />Elias McQuaid re: - ForestdaleTlls and John's Pond Plume <br />date - <br />Selectman Caffyn related concerns to continued fish sampling <br />as done in 11 before approval is giiven to swim in the pond. We <br />should post notice at the pond of information currently available <br />suggested selectman Caffyn. <br />Ron Watson -has recommended to organize a Process Action Team <br />to contain the plumes and prevent further contamination informed <br />Mr. McQuaid. <br />Mr. Pesce indicated that pudic health is a major concern of <br />the National. Guard Bureau. We may be able to short circuit some <br />of the red tape to get to the solution of the problem informed <br />Mr. Pesce. He indicated that this very issue was discussed <br />today. <br />The extraction process involves pumping the -ground water to <br />the depth of -the plume as determined in the capture zone i formed <br />Mr. Pesce, The ground water is then treated with an activated <br />carbon to decompose contaminants. <br />Fuels and solvents are the largest problem with plunne <br />indicated Mr. Pesce. The Ana j or i s sue involves management of the <br />plumes on a long term basis. New technologies are currently <br />being reviewed for treatment noted Mr. Pesce. <br />The containment system stops the forward migration of the <br />plume informed Mr. Begley. The plumes in the vicinity of the <br />ponds are further complicated. <br />As a resident of John's Pond, Selectman Jacobson related <br />concerns to residents swimming in the pond, She.faors testing <br />the pond on a bimonthly basis. <br />Tie motion was made by selectman Jacobson to request testing <br />of John's Pond at a , mi n imum bimonthly basis and seek <br />reimbursement from the MMB for testing and manpower involved in <br />the process. The motion was seconded by selectman Mills. VOTE: <br />Unani, ous , -o . <br />*It is the agreement of the parties involved to meet on a <br />regular monthly basis to discuss and review the plumes* <br />Selectman Caffyn indicated that there are Briatrwood <br />residents using contaminated wells, A separate meeting will <br />follow to address this concern. <br />is <br />
