approes. The employee shall have the right to be heard <br /> thereon, with the Department Head, before the Board. The <br /> Board shall decide the matter. <br /> c The following criteria will be employed by the Board <br /> if a hearing is requested by the employee: 1 length of <br /> -service to the Town; overall efficiency on the job* <br /> the prevailing standards for private industry in similar posi- <br /> tions, and 4 the interests of the Town as employer, <br /> . New Personnel—Permanent Employment <br /> a The hiring rate shall be the Lange minimum of the <br /> job for which the new employee is hired, unless otherwise <br /> authorized by the Board. Department Heads shall secure <br /> the prior approval of the Board for the hiring of all new <br /> personnel and their hiring rates. <br /> b For new regular full-tine personnel, there shall be <br /> probationary period not to exceed -six 6 . months. During <br /> this probationary period, the Board may review the em- <br /> ployee's record from -time to time; but in no case shall the <br /> employment be made permanent without at least one such <br /> review and approval by the Board. During the probationary <br /> period ars employee will not be entitled to any fringe benefits <br /> but after becoming a permanent employee, such benefit <br /> shall be retroactive to date of employment, except for retro- <br /> active payments by the Town. The Board may at its dis- <br /> cretion waive the requirement for a probationary period. <br /> . Medical l xami ations of Employees and Applicants <br /> a Every Town employee,-and every applicant for a posi- <br /> tion under The Plan# shall be certified by a practicing physi- <br /> cian designated by the Town. The certification must cover � <br /> physical fitness to perforin the duties of theposition, and <br /> any physical condition which might adversely -affect the in- <br /> surance coverage of the Town, under Chapter 152 of the <br /> General Daws or the group insurance coverage of other Town <br /> employees. The physical examination shall consider the mat- <br /> ter of pregnancy in prospective ferrule employees. No -assi n- <br /> ment shall be approved before the. Board is assured of it-he <br /> individua'l's fitness, based on the medical certificate.. At its <br /> discretion, the Board may require periodic re--examinations <br /> of employees. <br /> b - Persons -working part-time for the Police and Fire <br /> Departments shall 'be asked, prior to starting work in each <br /> case, whether they have any physical condition or other rea- <br /> son which might result in disability due to the- proposed <br /> work. <br />
