While <br /> ars employee may take maternity leave without pay at air time r <br /> after a diagnosis of her pregnancy is confirmed by her physi- <br /> cian in writing, the Torn may require written certification <br /> from her physician as to how long the employee should continue <br /> her regular work. All requests for maternity leaves of absence <br /> shall be made in writing by the employee to her Department Head, <br /> at least two 2 weeks prior to the desired date of leave. For <br /> maternity leave which does not exceed eight weeks, the <br /> i <br /> Town shall reinstate the employee to her previous position with <br /> the same status, pay and length of service credit as of the <br /> date of her leave, and cover the Town' part of the employee's <br /> Blue Cross/Blue .'Shield for the eight-week period. For longer <br /> periods of leave , the Town shall reinstate the employee in the <br /> first available opening for which she is qualified.
