Mr. Garland wi she s to see the final designation before he makes a decision. Robert Maxim said the advantage of -having the state involved in this would provide protection to the area against large , corporative development with massive construction. He was speaking for the majority of ,the -people present when he states Taluoi t Bay is not the area for- a- deep-wate r marina. He .ever has seen marina, in any town, help the shellfish in- dustry, not adversely affect the environment 'of the area, with the exception of the Nantucket Marina, which is too massive for here., Selectman Benway said we are not spearing of a marina of that magnitude t 'something to handle a draft of �' . Mr. Maxim ins said that he was opposed to the marina, but agreed with the access . Henry Urquhart, a resident of SCB, said he was interested in the newspaper article which said there would be a town landing near his area and he - has never heard the Board say that they could prevent New Se'abury Corp, from developing a marina. Mr. Benway noted . New Seabury Corp. will have to meet all the demands of the. Town conservation and -the state regulationsbe- fore a marina is approved. Henry Urquhart then expressed a concern that people who want to see such a development take place have a ' habit of serving on Town Committees , and this could happen within the next ew gears . Mr, Maxim said the local Conservation Commission can be over- ruled by DEQE but not as a general rule. H. Urquhart asked again, "Can you stop New, eabury " Both Selectman Benway and Mrs , DeLory responded, "Yes . " Mrs. DeLory said the Federal Government can be brought in as this deals with the, ll' flood elevations as well as the- Conservation Commission. All .members of the conservation Commission are for the ACEC designation and opposed to the marina, selectman Garland said until m'ore definitive plans and ' answers are presented, the Board will reserve judgement. . Frank Homeyer asked where in l ashpee is there a town landing to get to salt water outside of Pirates Cove. He 'felt the Town should take care of the waterfront and boating people who pay high taxes.. ' He added that from his experience what New Seabury wants, New eabury - gets .
