Friday morning, when his wife opened
the store, she discovered: the break and reported- it to the
Police Department, She- then found out the motion detector
burglar alarm system was activated. Several minutes later
one of the local police officers responded. He got out of
the car to check the front door. We have a reliable neighbor
that observed this officer and said that he did not check a-
ro nd the back of the building. He never called us at home.
The chief has stated the alarm went off 19 times and their
decision was a service. failure. After my wife discovered the
break, the alarm company was immediately notified. They will
testify nothing is wrong and the alarm system is functioning
properly. on Friday the officers were present, They too]
finger prints and checked around,, -They did not check the sur-
rounding outside area. It has core to our attention from the
Mash .ee Police -Officer, and they aro 99 sure that ,the liquor
that was ta] en was stored in the basement of the b ur'ne -out
Legion, - They -found a shirt an - a pair of. sunglasses . To the
bst of ray knowledge -the police- dog was never brought in. I 'm
out over $500, 00 and all I 've gotten is an apology. ' I think
this ,is wrong. - I.t' s an e.x ensi e apology and I just cannot
afford it. Mr:. Roberts noted 'that he had brought this "incident
to the attention of his attorney. F
o ep1-% Reardon, .Town Counsel., reminded Vie Board that the
Town is not the insurer. Because t o alarms are placed in
the police station does not mean the Town assumes liability.
If the Town- was held to such obligation, he -would hazard to
guess that no Town in the Common ealth would ermit alar is .. to
be installed in their departments .'
