Thomas Vogel , President of SMMA came to show how important this project is to SMMA and to confirm their total commitment. Phil Pinnelli , project architect for this project, responsible for technical issues. Bob Fornier, responsible for project management. Ray Bordwell , associate project director will work directly with Ed on programming . Mark Chen, principal in charge of design for Perkins and Will . All the team members have worked together before. SMMA has also worked with Dr . Collabro before and is looking forward to working with him again . It is their belief that 2 firms are better than 1 . So few high schools have been designed in the last 20 years, because of demographics . We would bring a national perspective to the design and programming of high schools, with Perkins and Will , to add to SMMA' s local understanding. How will the two firms work together? He showed their organizational chart . Perkins and Will will take the lead during the programming and design phases, under the direction of Ed Frennette . Ray and Mark will be sure the national perspective is applied here . SMMA will then take over the lead during the contract documents and construction administration phase . It will be Ray and Ed Frennette ' s job to be sure local codes, ordinances as well as cultural traditions are integrated into the project. All team members will work on the project from beginning to end . Other team members will phase in as their expertise is required and as phases change . Bill Brubaker director of programming for Perkins and Will was present at the first interview. He will be working directly with Ed and Ray on programming of the facility. Ed Frennette will be the direct day to day contact between the Committee and the team and between Perkins and Will and SMMA. Ray Bordwell and Ed will direct the team. Both firms have received all their recognition for developing schools that reflect the character of their communities . This is especially true of high schools because they are unusually the largest, most expensive, most used civic building in any community . We will use Cape Cod materials , wood shingles, clapboard and brick are potential materials. We have a strong philosophy about interior design for high schools . A more mature, sophisticated approach to colors should be taken. The environment should be supportive of the teaching and learning that is going on and not be a distraction from it. 5
