Discussion :
Joe said there should be no road out to 1 a 1 except for emergency access
it has to be that way .
Bill Martiros asked why the issue of shared cost of the road not be
considered now?
M r. F renette said it is an issue for the future. The school will probably
be built first and it will need a road , so you will have to built i t. You
could later negotiate to recoup some of the cost if the performing arts
center happens.
All in favor of the motion 5--0 ,
Site Program: this includes parking and athletics.
(Steve G ree l i sh ,l o i ned the meeting at 4 : 40 p.m. )
For parking , they will begin with the zoning requirements . Mr , F renette
believes that is 1 space for each staff person plus l for every 5 students
Joe suggested a grass area for the overflow.
Tom explained the bylaw limits the impervious surface coverage because it
is in a groundwater protection district but the site i s so large they
probably won ' t come up against i t.
Athletic Fields :
Cho we want to pay the cost of a football team? Does it cost a lot?
Ray Bordwe l l said it does cost a lot easily hundreds of thousands of
dollars - for grandstands lighting , bathrooms , concessions etc . If you
ouild a track , the space inside will support the football field .
Grandstands can then be used for a number of sports .
Peter stated this is an issue the school committee will have to review,
what programs does the town want?
Gus Fredricks rentioned the size of the school will determine who the teams
play . we should look at where they will be playing , i t may involve a lot of
travel and expense .
M r . F renette said construction can start without the football decision but
master planning cannot,
How many grandstand seats' M r. F renette said it would be unusual not to
have 1 , 000 seats on the home side. This can be expandable, as long as the
space is provided . The range of cost is large . There is also a large rang e
i n the cost of tracks V
M r . F renette said they need a list of all the sports that will part of the
program. T hey will then determine if there is an appropriate number of
fields , as well as practice spaces .
Whose responsibility is it to finalize thi s information?
M r t F re nette thinks there should be a subcommittee working on this ,
including current athletic departments. Gus Fredricks o l u n tee red to help.
Pay Bordwell said the things which drive the amount of fields : phys ed
requirements , maximum number of teams playing during a season , community
aspects , summer recreation program.
Peter asked Gus how he will get the communities pulse on this issue?
Gus will talk with the Youth Commission and Leisure service Committee . He
will contact, other towns and see ghat sports they have .
Dr. DeMou ra had previously p resented a sketch to Mr . F renette of the sports
3
