Pay Bordwel l said from the meeting , they wi l 1 get a sense of what Mashpee is about and from looking at other buildings in town ,. M r. F renette added he attempts to 9 i ve people things that can ' t be quantified. All the best things in life can ' t be quantified ( love, marriage , children ) . These things will be described differently here than somewhere else . This teary will jump into Mash pee and get a sense of ghat it is about. They will involve the public through the Charette process. They are inviting the Committee to edit the document, Office space for Leisure Services : Gus Fredricks suggested a small office near the gym and fitness center with some nearby classroom space . He needs areas for community use while the rest of the building is closed off. Presently , his program uses 5 or 6 c 1 assroom5. In the future , they wi l l probably need at least 10 classrooms. Dr. DeMoura would like the community use limited to the High school so only I building needs to be opened after hours. Pay Bordwell will add 1 office at 100 sq feet, in proximity to athletics but accessible to a controlled point of entry . The Committee agreed to add this 100 sq foot Leisure service office to the program, ** The Committee discussed the possibility of another use for that office during the day . Dr ,, De ou ra reminded everyone if it is not doubled up with a program use , it is not reimbursable . Library: the town has decided it won ' t eliminate the present library but should this library be accessible to the Public? Merry sue noted we will then have to pay someone to supervise it. Dr. DeMoura told the committee that he does not want too many outside doors . Ray Bo r dwe l l agreed . D r. ca l ab ro just completed a study where the school ' s library was open to the public , He read from it theft or loss of books totals about $152000 every two years , it occurs during the day and after hours . The situation must be remedied . << Steve Gree l i sh said access to this area a because it houses the multi media computers , is very important. Tom explained the High school in Michigan provided facilities for small business, after school hours . Fd F renette asked if anyone had any potential reductions? Derry sue thought the shared facilities were excessive . It could be one per house , rather than two. It will be amended to 2 at 1 , 200 sq ft saving 800 sq feet. Bill Martiros asked about the need for 4 guidance offices? Dr . DeMoura said there should be 1 per 250 students, so in his opinion 4 is not enough. Library : is there a formula for the amount of books it should have? Dr, ca 1 abro said there is and he will get it to SMMA. Classroom adjoining the library - 800 sq feet, This is not a dedicated teaching space. Does it need storage space? Merry sue said it does need a second access so , under space constraints , it can be used as a classrooms The Committee agreed this room does not need storage space . ** The committee discussed the size of the main room and amount of seats. Dr . Cal abro explained the standard size for a library is 10-15% of the student body x 40 sq feet = main room. 5
