MINUTES
** Joe made a motion to accept the minutes of October 25 , 1994 as
amended by the SMMA letter of Nov. 10, Merry Sue seconded the
motion . All members were in favor. **
** Merry Sue made a motion to accept the minutes of Nov. 1 , 1994. Joe
seconded the motion.
Bob said top of pg . 7 should say design temporary storm drainage , not
provide.
pg . 11 E- Bob said the is no longer being used for the bathroom floors.
Paul agreed, but he did comment at that meeting that if the is used it
should be 8x8.
Bill Hauck said he read that the Committee voted to eliminate one toilet in
alternative education . No unisex toilets are allowed by Code .
Bob said they realize that. They eliminated both toilets there.
** All members were in favor of the motion to approve the minutes. **
COST REDUCTIONS
Mark Chen was present to discuss the new exterior material and circulation
around the servery .
He presented 2 choices for the exterior block: grey with grey roof and
white trim or red block with red trim.
He explained concrete block does not have as great a range in color as
brick - it has limitations.
How big is the block? It is 8 x 16 . Ed suggested having a score on the 8"
line so it looks like 8 x 8, not 8 x 16 .
Mark presented an elevation of both choices.
The Committee discussed/debated the choices.
Janice asked what color they expect the wood trim to be?
With red block, will be a white stain . With grey , a bleaching stain to
make it grey .
Janice and Merry Sue like the grey.
Paul asked which will make the building appear to be smaller?
Ed said on bright, sunny days - the grey.
On winter grey cloudy days - the red will look better.
Paul suggested the grey would blend more with the background of fields and
woods where the red will seem to stick out.
Ian asked if the block, especially grey, will get darker over time, from
pollution?
Ed said the block is more porus than brick.
Greg Taylor asked how much of a cost savings there is with block?
At least $300 , 000 .
He asked why they were considering using any wood?
Mark said it was looked at initially because it was cheaper. It is only on
the upper part of the gym, it is decorative.
It is on less than 20% of the building .
Paul said 20% sounds like a lot . He would like to look at alternative
products for the wood component.
Bill asked what the roof will be, if using block?
Ed said the roof is independent of this decision . The color will match.
3
