Technology Summary/CCR (continued) page 7
Lengthy general discussion followed. Regarding the testing of
computers and other items for electrical functionality, Michael
informed that the general contract , electrical and communications
section, owns testing of every cable; there will be test results
on every cable. Joel gave full explanation of what Stone must
do. Regarding concern about possible frequency interference to
cabling because the video, telephone, and data cables are all
located on one side, Steve informed there should not be any
bleedthrough problem; we wanted to get away from the AC power.
Michael informed that the 24 blank backup tapes have been
increased to 30 , a generous supply for one year.
Steve and Michael discussed the file servers at length; each has
a single drive, not mirrored; Michael said he is trying to
obtain a more reasonable price for a mirrored drive. Steve and
Paul discussed using a second drive if storage capacity runs low.
Steve explained that the most likely problem to arise is the
drive; if you have a mirrored drive, you can pull the disk out of
the machine and keep it running; we will not be using the servers
to store massive data . Both agreed this procedure is less costly.
Steve questioned the status of software programs; he realizes the
teachers want to choose the bulk of it, but we need some baseline
going in. John informed that he has received some suggestions;
he will send out letters for a comprehensive response . Michael
explained that we are using the real version of Microsoft because
it is consistent with a school to work or do graduate work; it is
an excellent basis; it is not just one half of a package.
General discussion continued and also included scanners , copier
machines , printers , and paper supply.
Paul questioned Michael about the delivery schedule of his
equi ment. Michael informed it is usually shipped within the
same week, but we would like to tie it to Manny' s budget; if we
get your agreement on this , we would like to cut the order based
on John ' s requirements and just push them through the process .
Discussion followed. The Selectmen have to vote on this ; Peter
informed that their next meeting is the 12th; Michael said he
could have all the contracts prepared for signature.
Upon question from Paul, Michael informed that this is our third
and final package; the telephone system has been contracted and
will be ready in August; shipping_ takes about one week General
and side discussions followed. Paul requested that Michael
prepare a schedule of delivery dates along with vendor names and
type of equipment; Manny has been requested to submit the same.
If dates are unknown, note this on the schedule; when each firm
date is received, submit it as soon as possible. Joel suggested
that Michael submit the schedule to him; Joel will give it to
Chartwell . Michael asked the Committee if he should prepare the
package for the Selectmen ' s approval after he and ,john reach an
agreement. All Committee Members expressed approval .
