r t <br /> Ms. Lugo explained that in December 2007, the school department had <br /> submitted a capital improvement proposal to lease three new vans each <br /> year for the next four years. If approved this would have updated the fleet. <br /> In January 2008, the CIP Committee voted to defer action due to <br /> budgetary constraints, on 3/19/08, school committee members were <br /> given an update about the condition offleet. That info ation is as <br /> follows: <br /> M The school has I I vans total <br /> 0 Some of the vans range in age from 10 years old, 8 years old, 7 <br /> years old, and 6 years old <br /> ■ There are five vans over 6 years old; three of which have mileage <br /> between 225,000-272,000 miles <br /> ■ The remaining 6 vans are between 2-5 years old; five of which <br /> have mileage between I13,000-20 , 00 miles <br /> ■ There are currently daily runs to Braintree, Easton, Norwell and <br /> Walpole <br /> ■ Thea are no spare vans or Broadside service for vans <br /> ■ The number of students transported exceeds van capacity and the <br /> school currently uses livery services to transport students. In FY0 <br /> through April 1 st, $25,000 was spent on livery service. <br /> IVIS. Lugo stated for Mashpee to become independent in special education <br /> transportation the school would reed to add more vans and drivers. There <br /> is no funding for vans, and not much interest by substitute drivers. <br /> The school currently transports 20 out-of-district students, and 40 in- <br /> district students. IVIS. Lugo gave some background on the Cape Cod <br /> Collaborative- <br /> 0 <br /> ollaborativ -■ The Collaborative website is www.cccollaborative.org <br /> ■ The Collaborative has a board of directors comprised of a <br /> school board member of each member district <br /> ■ It was originally organized to serve 19 school districts <br /> ■ Non-Profit organization <br /> ■ 200 full and part time staff members <br /> Currently transporting 125 special education students <br /> ■ Have been in special education care for 25 years <br /> ■ % of vehicles are newer than 2006 <br /> ■ Have video-monitoring, GPS, two-way communication, and air <br /> conditioning <br /> ■ <br /> Specifically in business to serve Cape Cod districts <br /> Ms. Lugo discussed the history of special education costs from 2005-2008. <br /> She discussed Massachusetts General Laws, and DoE website <br /> information dealing with transportation. <br /> School Committee Finance Meeting 4/16108 <br />
