Page 6
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
October 24, 1994
COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE:
Letter of Appreciation - Harbormaster and Shellfish
Constable:
Communication ws received from the Monomoscoy Improvement
Trust dated September 28, 1994 expressing appreciation to Harbor
Master Perry Ellis and Shellfish Constable Richard York for their
excellent work overseeing the activities on Waquoit Bay, Great and
Little Rivers as well as Hamblin and.Iehu Ponds this past year.
*On behalf of the Board of Selectmen, Mr. Whritenour will draft
a letter of appreciation to Mr. Ellis and Mr. York for their efforts
this past season. Letter of appreciation to be retained in employee's
personnel files.
Letter to the Editor:
Selectman Mills read aloud a letter intended for submission to
the Editor of the Mashpee Enterprise. The letter is in response to a
recent editorial submitted by Mr. McGonagle regarding televising
Selectmen's Meetings and handicap issues.
OLD BUSINESS:
Water District Fire Hydrants:
Communication was received from the Executive Secretary dated
October 20, 1994 relative to the review of the Water District's request
for funds for fire hydrant maintenance.
It was noted that Selectman Caffyn, Fire Chief Baker, and DPW Director
Greg Taylor assisted the Executive Secretary in the review of fire hydrants.
Presently there are 625-650 fire hydrants in Mashpee indicated Mr.
Whritenour. It was noted that the exact hydrant count was not
available from the Water District.
The Water District has calculated an annual fee of$50 per hydrant to
conduct proper maintenance procedures informed Mr. Whritenour.
Using the estimate of 650 hydrants, the calculated maintenance fee is
$32,500 per year.
It was agreed that a proposal should be developed to divide the
responsibilites of proper maintenance among the Town and the District
indicated Mr. Whritenour. Using both entities will save money and
avoid duplicating services.
