Page 6 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> February 27, 1995 <br /> OLD BUSINESS: <br /> Correspondence from Attorney Paul Scannell: - <br /> Communication was received from Attorney Paul Scannell dated <br /> February 21, 1995 in response to the February 2, 1995 opinion of <br /> Attorney Marder as it pertains to Denise Sullivan and her position on <br /> the Finance Committee and employment with the Town as Clerk in the i <br /> Assessors Office. <br /> i <br /> In response to Attorney Scannell's memo,Attorney Marder submitted <br /> communication dated February 23, 1995 regarding his opinion on <br /> Finance Committee membership. <br /> The Town bylaw, Section 5.8 states that a member of the Finance <br /> Committee cannot serve in any other appointed or elected Town Office. <br /> Selectman Vaccaro indicated that he served as Chairman of the Board <br /> of Selectmen during the time in which Ms. Sullivan was hired as Clerk <br /> to the Assessors Office. <br /> Former Town Counsel,Attorney Reardon was advised of this concern. <br /> It was his opinion, that the Town Bylaw did not apply. Ms. Sullivan's <br /> position as Clerk was not an appointed or elected position indicated <br /> Selectman Vaccaro. <br /> It was noted that the bylaw was originally passed in 1982 as a petition <br /> article. <br /> Selectman Vaccaro recommended to allow the Chief Election Official <br /> to consult State authorities regarding this concern since the Finance <br /> Committee is an independently elected board <br /> Motion made by Selectman Vaccaro to return this matter <br /> to the Town Clerk for advisement. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Dinizio. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0. <br /> NEW BUSINESS: <br /> 125th Anniversary Committee Update: <br /> Joanne Ferragamo, Coordinator of Mashpee's 125th Anniversary was <br /> present to update the Board on events and commemorative items. <br /> Various items are available for purchase at the 125th Anniversary <br /> Information Center located in the Cape Cod 5 Cents Savings Bank, <br /> North Market Street. <br />
