Page 6 Board of Selectmen Minutes February 27, 1995 OLD BUSINESS: Correspondence from Attorney Paul Scannell: - Communication was received from Attorney Paul Scannell dated February 21, 1995 in response to the February 2, 1995 opinion of Attorney Marder as it pertains to Denise Sullivan and her position on the Finance Committee and employment with the Town as Clerk in the i Assessors Office. i In response to Attorney Scannell's memo,Attorney Marder submitted communication dated February 23, 1995 regarding his opinion on Finance Committee membership. The Town bylaw, Section 5.8 states that a member of the Finance Committee cannot serve in any other appointed or elected Town Office. Selectman Vaccaro indicated that he served as Chairman of the Board of Selectmen during the time in which Ms. Sullivan was hired as Clerk to the Assessors Office. Former Town Counsel,Attorney Reardon was advised of this concern. It was his opinion, that the Town Bylaw did not apply. Ms. Sullivan's position as Clerk was not an appointed or elected position indicated Selectman Vaccaro. It was noted that the bylaw was originally passed in 1982 as a petition article. Selectman Vaccaro recommended to allow the Chief Election Official to consult State authorities regarding this concern since the Finance Committee is an independently elected board Motion made by Selectman Vaccaro to return this matter to the Town Clerk for advisement. Motion seconded by Selectman Dinizio. VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0. NEW BUSINESS: 125th Anniversary Committee Update: Joanne Ferragamo, Coordinator of Mashpee's 125th Anniversary was present to update the Board on events and commemorative items. Various items are available for purchase at the 125th Anniversary Information Center located in the Cape Cod 5 Cents Savings Bank, North Market Street.
