Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes-revised <br /> November 6, 1995 <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINQS <br /> Shellfish Hearings: <br /> Mr. York indicated that the Shellfish Commission has voted unanimously <br /> to close the scallop season at sunset on December 31, 1935 to protect the <br /> remaining seed scallops that were released last fall. <br /> It was noted that there are very few scallops this year. It is the lowest <br /> population on record since the 60's indicated Mr. York. <br /> The Shellfish Commission has also voted unanimously to recommend <br /> a small,new non-commercial (family) shellf shing area in Hamblin's <br /> Pond. <br /> An area of approximately 1.2 acres has been proposed on the Monomoscoy <br /> side of the pond. The area is mostly sand bottom containing quahogs and <br /> soft--shelled clams informed Mr. York. <br /> Presently, there are four family shellfishing areas. It was noted that the <br /> Waterways Commission supports this request. <br /> In other business, the Shellfish Commission has voted unanimously to <br /> recommend the opening of the Ockway Bay Landing Closure Area for <br /> the taking of soft-shelled clams. <br /> It was noted that the area was closed to protect the clams for spawning <br /> and seed growth. <br /> Mr.York indicated that all recommendations will take effect on Friday, <br /> November 10, 1995 at sunrise if approved by the Board of Selectmen. <br /> Being no further comment, Selectman Vaccaro closed the Public Hearing. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Mills to amend the Scallop Season <br /> as recommended to close at sunset on December 31, 1995 <br /> and re-open at sunrise on October 1, 1996 <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Dinizio. <br /> TE: Unanimous. 4-0. <br /> s <br /> Motion made by Selectman Mills to approve the proposed <br /> Family Shellfishing Area in Hamblin's Pond as recommended <br /> effective at sunrise on Friday, November 10, 1995. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Caffyn. <br /> .YQT : Unanimous. 4-0. <br /> .k <br />
