BOARD of LIBRARY TRUSTEES <br /> OCTOBER to , 1995 <br /> PAGE THREE <br /> V BUSINESS FROM PREVIOUS MEETINGS : <br /> B. continuation of Capital Program: Helene explained, what <br /> we are looking' for would approximately ,double the size of <br /> the library, and we are looking for it within fire years . <br /> Over the next t year or two, we will he getting more exact <br /> idea of what we need spacewise. <br /> Helene - explained to the meeting-, "We have received estimates <br /> from Gaffney Architects who designed the original building- <br /> As Dick- mentioned, when the building was first constructed, <br /> it was anticipated to be about twice the size, but the eco- <br /> nomics just weren' t there. Things had to be scaled back,- <br /> and amenities were left out. The building was designed in <br /> such a way .that it could easily .he expanded. ' There i <br /> sufficient land here, so that we would not have to purchase <br /> additional land,, We asked Gaffney ,Associates, if they could <br /> just come in and give some ki d of ,an idea of costs . ' As <br /> it turns out, we are looking in the neicho 'hood of $660 ,,200 . <br /> Helene continued, 'that she had looked at a study that was <br /> done In 1982 . ' Tony Fe raga.-no was hired to prepare a study <br /> of .the library. ' At that time, he was looking at whether <br /> it would he feasible to expand the ]wilding that is now <br /> the Archives-, br should they buy' new. The decision carne <br /> down that the building was just not strong enough to carry _ <br /> the <br /> arry - <br /> the added weight of -stacks, so it really was More cost ef- <br /> fective <br /> f-fective t build n6w. I have included a copy .of .the sec- <br /> tions of the study of what was pertinent, highlighting <br /> areas that should have gone into this facility and due to <br /> lack of .money and space were not included. ' Helene reviewed <br /> her materials, page-by-page, and explained her illustrations. <br /> G. Report on storage areas : M. Marsh explained that Polly Spence, <br /> a - rep. from visited the library, measured for <br /> shelves, and submitted a written estimate .
