BOARD of LIBRARY TRUSTEES OCTOBER to , 1995 PAGE THREE V BUSINESS FROM PREVIOUS MEETINGS : B. continuation of Capital Program: Helene explained, what we are looking' for would approximately ,double the size of the library, and we are looking for it within fire years . Over the next t year or two, we will he getting more exact idea of what we need spacewise. Helene - explained to the meeting-, "We have received estimates from Gaffney Architects who designed the original building- As Dick- mentioned, when the building was first constructed, it was anticipated to be about twice the size, but the eco- nomics just weren' t there. Things had to be scaled back,- and amenities were left out. The building was designed in such a way .that it could easily .he expanded. ' There i sufficient land here, so that we would not have to purchase additional land,, We asked Gaffney ,Associates, if they could just come in and give some ki d of ,an idea of costs . ' As it turns out, we are looking in the neicho 'hood of $660 ,,200 . Helene continued, 'that she had looked at a study that was done In 1982 . ' Tony Fe raga.-no was hired to prepare a study of .the library. ' At that time, he was looking at whether it would he feasible to expand the ]wilding that is now the Archives-, br should they buy' new. The decision carne down that the building was just not strong enough to carry _ the arry - the added weight of -stacks, so it really was More cost ef- fective f-fective t build n6w. I have included a copy .of .the sec- tions of the study of what was pertinent, highlighting areas that should have gone into this facility and due to lack of .money and space were not included. ' Helene reviewed her materials, page-by-page, and explained her illustrations. G. Report on storage areas : M. Marsh explained that Polly Spence, a - rep. from visited the library, measured for shelves, and submitted a written estimate . Inc luded in the estimate was the equipment, special color installation, non- union, regular hours , a grand total of $3, 621. i i ex- plained that this would take care of a major problem the library has with their videos .
