J j S.C.B. 6/7/05 P. 2 IV Discussion of hunting: Put to a vote, the committee voted unanimously in favor of continuing hunting on South Cape Beach ..State. Park .for the,'2005/2006.'.hunting season. Jack Cramer thanked the hunters for their attendance and rep- resentation of the hunting population. V SUCH OTHER BUSINESS AS MAY COME BEFORE THE MEETING: Jack stated that he had prepared copies of the 2004 Annual Town Report for the new members so that they would understand this discussion. On Page 2, we discuss the Stone Memorial. There was an attempt to erect a stone memorial to honor the people who were actually the founding fathers of this project. There have been other issues that seemed to get in the way of accom- plishing this project. Morris Kirsner who was our founding, recently retired chairman, worked hard on this committee ' s behalf. Jack took it upon himself to ask the committee ' s help toget this accomplished. Here is where we are: Jack had a drawing prepared to illustrate what the final product would look like. It will be 42" high; it is granite with a bronze plaque with various ver- biage on it. With Joe Souza' s help, we made a site visit and scoped out where we wanted to place the memorial. We were working through Christine Gault, WBNERR Reserve Manager. Unfortunately, Ms . Gault became seriously ill this winter and was away from the office for an extended period. We will need a letter of ap- proval before we can proceed. We have raised the money privately so there will be no cost to anyone, neither Mashpee nor the State. It was suggested that we send this request to the Commissioner of DCR (previously DEM) . It has been reorganized, and it appears that things are moving slowly. Jack has made contact as recently as today. Our request has set off something which is going to slow the process. The State has decided._. that they will come up with a standard of what a memorial has to be - size , weight, etc. So it is going through the process . The Commissioner, Priscilla Geigis has tried to reach Jack Cramer several times when he was unavailable. She will contact Jack personally, by phone or e-mail.. She contacted Christine Gault at WBNERR AND ASKED HER TO WRITE A LETTER COMMENTING ON OUR REQUEST. That has been done. I understand that there were no problems with our request that were significant. Jack feels that he has done all that he can, except he calls the scretary every two weeks to find out how we are doing, and has established a relationship with her. Eventually, this is going to happen. It may take six or eight months. We can move quickly once we receive the letter giving us the go-ahead.
