5
Community Preservation Committee
Minutes
November &, 2018
Applicant: Catherine Laurent (DP)Y
Proposal Title: Mashpee Middle/High School Running Track Reconstruction: TBD
Due to scheduling difficulties review of the above referenced agenda topic was deferred to the
next meeting.
Applicant: Catherine Laurent DPW
Proposal Title: Attaquin Park Proposed Basketball Cour: $42,000: *Revised: $123,50
In the absence of Catherine Laurent, Director of Public Works, Mary Bradbury, Recreation
Director presented a revised/expanded application request for proposed improvements to
Attaquin Park.
Ms. Bradbury indicated the original request in the amount of$42,000 was for site work, paving
of the court, fencing and contingency. The revised application is reflected of an entirely
different project.
The goal of the new proposal is to enhance and improve the site amenities at Attaquin Park. The
new project includes the construction of a basketball court and the installation of a shade
structure in the picnic area as well as the installation of additional playground equipment for
health and safety purposes. It is anticipated the Department of Public Works would provide
assistance associated to the site work for this project.
For health and safety, the new court is proposed to be relocated in a cleared area adjacent to the
parking lot. The court is currently in the parking lot. With the removal of trees, a 20x24' shade
shelter would be constructed similar to other recreational sites in the Town of Mashpee.
CPA funding previously supported the installation of new playground equipment at Attaquin
Park. Phase II of the project proposal was deferred to monitor the property. During the past
three years, the playground has been used heavily without incident. There is a need to provide a
healthy and constructive activity for youth, residents and visitors.
Discussion followed with respect to the setting of precedent regarding CPC Applications. It was
disclosed the deadline dates are not set in stone, and there is discretion amongst the CPC
members to revised budgets.
