6
Community Preservation Committee
Minutes
December 6, 2018
Applicant: Deborah Dami, Town Clerk
Proposal Title: Historic Document Restoration: $188,112—Phase I: (continued)
In considering this proposal, it was revealed the Historical Commission has several books
scanned and in digital format. The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe has also microfilmed some of
the larger books. It was recommended the Town Clerk further research the documents that have
been processed to avoid duplication.
The Barnstable Registry of Deeds was also noted to have past information that has been scanned
and laminated which is available online for public review.
It was agreed the firm Kofile Preservation would be consulted regarding birth certificate
documentation that should not be handled that may be considered as a new phase within the
project proposal. It was also recommended the Town Archives be consulted regarding potential
space that may be available for public review and of other historical documents that may be in
need of restoration
The Town Clerk was also requested to complete the CPC Application fully by answering the
applicable questions regarding this project.
Applicant: Mashpee 150th Anniversary Committee
Proposal Title: Mashpee 150th Anniversary $100,000:
Trish Keliinui and Ava Costello, members of the Mashpee 150th Anniversary Committee were
present to review their application for CPA funding in the amount of$100,000 to hold a series of
events in celebration of Mashpee's incorporation into the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The Mashpee 150th Anniversary Committee was recently formed by a unanimous vote of the
Board of Selectmen with support from various Town Departments, the Chamber of Commerce
the Wampanoag Community and State Representatives. With the infancy of the committee there
is not a lot of specificity regarding the use of CPA funds for the celebration, but the timing of
receiving funds for this endeavor is an important factor in receiving funds for the public event
proposed to maintain the Town of Mashpee's most important resource, its history.
Community Preservation Committee member Brian Hyde disclosed that he is a member of the
Mashpee 150th Anniversary Committee, and would step down when the topic is voted upon by
the Community Preservation Committee. To further explain the intention of the application for
CPA funding Mr. Hyde indicated the committee is attempting to hold a year-long celebration.
There is a strong need to have seed money to plan for this event which at this time includes the
publishing of a new book on the History of the Town of Mashpee, the flying of the Mount
Rusl-anore National Flag, town-wide games, a play, and a community clam-bake featuring a
Mashpee heritage weekend. To kick-off the events ample publicity and advertising are required.
