The DEP and EPA have approved the TMDLs and the Massachusetts Estuary Project <br /> and the Chair reported that 1ashpee Selectmen have voted not to challenge the methodology of <br /> the MEP and the TAID . i <br /> technical report has been prepared for Popponesset and is available on the website. The report <br /> identified the problem as excessive nitrogen and was basedcon three years of data. The report <br /> was finalized in 2004 and approved by the DEP and turned into a TSL which was approved b <br /> the EPA. The Chair noted that Barnstable, Mashpee and Sandwich all contribute to the nitrogen <br /> loading in Popponesset. The Chair referenced the chart on slide 7 to best explain the TMDL, <br /> adding that conditions were worse.now due to increased growth. Half of what was-entering <br /> Popponesset in.2001 is all that can enter the bay forever, in order to meet the TWDL targets. <br /> The sources of the nitrogen come from septic wastewater 7%),treatment plants(1%), lawn <br /> fertilizers(8%), runoff(50/o), natural sources % and rai <br />
