6:30 George L. & Kathleen J. Hodgson, 17 Cedar Street. Proposed removal of
hazardous trees and replacement with native plant species. RDA
Resource Area: Buffer Zone to Coastal Bank, Shoestring Bay
Kathleen Hodgson, homeowner, stated her proposal is to removed 5 trees located on east
side of the garage near the top of the bank and replace with trees approved by arborist.
She noted the arborist stated 4 of the trees are engulfed with invasive vines and are in
poor condition and the 5E" tree presents a risk to the structures.
The Agent showed pictures of the trees in question. He contacted the arborist to see if
pruning would be an alternative and they said to remove them would likely kill the tree. He
noted the four trees which have invasive ivy. He noted the coastal bank and stated the
trees are within the 50' buffer. He recommended not to replace the oak tree with an oak
tree and agreed with the arborist's recommendation for replacement.
No comment from the public
Motion: Mr. Smith moved a Negative Determination, seconded by Mr. O'Neill. Christine stated the proposal is
to put in some lawn in the front of the house and along the driveway.
The Agent stated this is an after the fact filing. He stated he saw the contractors installing
sod on the property which abuts Popponesset Creek. The contractors were in the
process of installing the lawn and he stopped the work. He called up the contractor to
make sure the lawn met our lawn standards and reviewed the photos of the property. The
contractor submitted documentation and then the work continued. He noted the town has
a nitrogen control bylaw and that is the reasoning for the lawn standard.
No comment from the public
Motion: Mr. Smith moved a Negative Determination, seconded by Mr. Dalton.
