5 Community Preservation Committee Minutes December 18, 2018 NEW BUSINESS Deliberations on May 2019 Project Proposals: (continued) Mashpee Community Garden Reconstruction: $44,996: It was noted the original project was funded by the Community Preservation Committee. Due to lack of involvement, the community gardening initiative became inactive until the Community Garden Committee was formed. Members of the CPC discussed the merits of the project as well as concerns with maintenance. The site is located in a highly visible area off of Route 130 and the Department of Public Works is not able to commit to assist with this project. Virginia Scharfenberg, Chair of the Mashpee Community Garden Committee was in attendance to request support of the reconstruction project. With approval, Ms. Scharfenberg indicated work would be contracted with members of the Master Garden program and with AmeriCorps volunteers. The educational component of the gardens will tie in with the endeavors of the Historical Commission for the 150'h Anniversary of the Town of Mashpee. Motion made by Mr. Smith to approve and recommend to the May 2019 Special Town Meeting the Mashpee Community Garden Reconstruction project in the amount of$44,996 for Open Space & Recreation purposes. Motion seconded by Ms. Waygan. VOTE: 6-1-1. Motion carries.
