Community Preservation Committee
Minutes
June t, 2017
Catherine Laurent-Pickleball Court Construction with Parkin and Site Amenities: (continued)
CPC member Brian Hyde indicated he represents the Historical Commission on this committee.
For the record Mr. Hyde stated he is supportive of the pickleball sport, but he does not feel the
Historic District Commission would support this project moving forward since the site location
lies within the Mashpec Historic Distr'ct.
It was disclosed the Historic District Commission recently learned of this project through the
local paper without prior notice and approval.
RegardingRegardIng permitting and processes, it was noted this is net a purview of the Community
Preservation Committee. After a project is reviewed and approved by a vote of the CPC and by
Town Meeting, it is the responsibility of the applicant to obtain necessary permitting.
As a result of the popularity of this sport, the Community Preservation Committee is considering
two site locations to move the project forward, opposed to requiring the applicant to submit an
additional application which would necessitate additional authorization from the CPC at their
next funding round as well as Town Meeting approval.
Ms. Laurent Indicated she would like the opportunity to make a formal presentation to the
Historic District Commission upon approval of the application. FIs+ Laurent also reiterated that
in normal process, permits are not secured until after a prof ect is approved.
Being no further comment, the CPC motioned as follows;
Motion made by Mrs. Thayer to approve and recommend to the October 2017 Town
Meeting, the Pickleball Court Construction project with parking and site amenities in the
amount of$420,000 at(1) of the two referenced locations. Funding for this project shall
derive from the Budgeted for Appropriation Reserve.
Motion seconded by Mr. Hyde.
VOTE* Unanimous. 5-0.
Roll Call Note:
Mr. Halpern,yes Mr. Larkin,yes Mrs. Sherman,yes
Mrs* Thayer, yes Mr. Hyde, yes opposed, none
