IN
J. BRADEN THOMPSON ROAD SITE
DEP The Department of Environmental Protection has received the results of groundwater sam-
southeast ling conducted as part of the J.Braden Thompson Road Site(JBT)cleanup efforts. JBT is
Region
p
the location of a former junkyard in Sandwich(Forestdale),Massachusetts where a release
20 of chlorinated solvents has impacted the groundwater in the area. The samples were taken
Riverside in the vicinity of Mashpee-Wakeby Pond near the Sandwich/Mashpee town line.
Drive
Findings indicate that the groundwater contaminant plume is deeper [at depths to 260 feet
Lakeville w the round surface and slightly further north than ori inall thought. The contami-
MA Belo g g Y g y g
02347 nated groundwater is migrating from JBT in a southeasterly direction towards Mashpee
Wakeby Pond, approximately 5,100 feet from the site.
Phone:
508
946-2700
Fax: WATER SUPPLIES
508
947.6537
There are no municipal water supplies in the vicinity of the groundwater contami-
nant plume.
However, seven private water supply wells exist in the vicinity of Pickerel Cove
(Mashpee-Wakeby Pond). DEP has been monitoring these wells on a quarterly
basis. one well sample consistently contains approximately 1.5 ugll of
tetrachloroethene, the drinking water standard is S ugll). The other six residen-
tial wells have not contained any detectable concentrations of chlorinated solvents.
All the analytical results indicate that the water from these wells is safe to drink.
QQETAMINAliTS
The groundwater sample collected from the deep monitoring well installed 160 feet
from the shore of Mashpee-Wakeby Pond contained the following chlorinated solvents
(cleaners/degreasers); 1,X,2,2-tetrachlorethane,tetrachloroethene(PCE),trichloroethene
(TCE) and other related compounds. The shallow well at this location did not contain
detectable concentrations of chlorinated solvents.
Thesam roundwater les collected from other deep monitoring wells in the area con--
g p
tained lower concentrations of these chlorinated solvents.
continued
