i
Page 8
a3fn
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
February ary 12 1996
APPQLNnENTS AND]HEARING&
Plm m n - D i •
Mr.Taylor related concerns with respect to the intent to discharge from the
Pe g
C5-10 plume,900,000 gallons of treated water per day,4.5 miles away
from the base as a different method of discharge than what was related
originally.
The treated water is in zone II of three wells within the Town. The
requirement is that it will be treated within the guidelines of federal
drinking water standards. Mr.Taylor indicated that Mashpee's water
is of better quality than the maximum levels allowed by the federal
government.
It appears the Guard Bureau has really not done its homework within
the Town of Mashpee indicated Mr. Taylor, It was noted that the engineers
of OpTech did finally meet with David Rich, the Operations Manager for
the Mashpee Water District since the design document was delivered to
the Installation Restoration Program and regulatory agencies in late January.
The Town is also not well served by the ten infiltrationalleries proposed
g p p
around the commercial center of Town. It was noted that the infiltration
galleries are proposed to simulate the size of a football field, 75'x300'x
22'deep and are intended to be placed in the area of the Wildlife Refuge,
Mr. Taylor related concerns with respect to the proposed infiltration sites
and the amount of clearing and disruption of vegetation involved in the
process and how it will effect the Town of Mashpee.
Selectman Costa indicated that in the future,Falmouth may look to Mashpee
. Y Pe
for its water. He suggested to seek the Water Districts guidance with
regards to the quality of water proposed to be returned by this method.
We have undertaken efforts to preserve the pristine land within the wildlife
Refuge indicated Selectman Mills, It appears that Mashpee is bearing the
burden. It was noted that the CS-10 plume is located in closed proxUri ty
to the Falmouth town line.
Selectman Mills asked if the areas will be re vegetated. Mr.Minior
indicated that it is the bureau's intention to grow grasses to attract wildlife
in the proposed infiltration galleries.
Selectman Dinizio recommended toplace the infiltration galleries on
-r: the north side of the base. This area will not be developed in the foreseeable
}r,H
future explained Selectman Dinizio. Mr.Minor could not give a specific
answer to this request.
