Page 4 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> November 4, 1996 <br /> CQ.Mh2jW-CATION AND CORRESPONDENCE; <br /> Informational Meetin re: Education Reform Ac • <br /> Selectman Dinizio submitted correspondence to the Board relative to <br /> the Education Reform Act and related State Education budget. He urged <br /> residents to attend an informational meeting about the Massachusetts <br /> League of women Voters'proposal to change how the Education Reform <br /> Act disperses State Aid. <br /> The meeting will be held at the Sandwich High School on Thursday, <br /> December 5, 1996 at 7:30 p.m. to detail the Education Reform changes the <br /> League is seeking. <br /> Changes the League of Women Voters have proposed include; ensuring a <br /> community's State Education Aid does not decrease from year to year, <br /> distributing additional aid to communities that are spending less than 85% <br /> of their minimum foundation budget, and distributing remaining education <br /> money according to a formula that considers growth and other factors. <br /> Selectman Caffyn, a member of the State's Foundation Budget Review <br /> Commission indicated that an additional public meeting will be held in <br /> Barnstable on December 12, 1996 to address local concerns. <br /> Selectman Caffyn suggested that interested parties present their proposals <br /> to the full Commission in an effort to bring more State funds to beleaguered <br /> Cape schools. <br /> Town Landfill Capping Grant: <br /> Mr.Whritenour indicated that he attended a meeting today in Boston with <br /> representatives from the Department of Environmental Protection to discuss <br /> issues pertaining to the landfill capping grant proposal. <br /> Several issues have been resolved, and we are moving forward to adhere <br /> to the timetable to close the landfill next fiscal year announced Mr. <br /> Whritenour,Executive Secretary. <br />
