Nadeau,yes; Vice Chairwoman Johnson-Graham,yes; Ms. Doyle,yes; Mr.Horner,yes;
Ms. Brown,yes
NHDC Brochure Subcommittee-Ms. Doyle reported that the Committee was working
on a Connect with Us brochure, as well as the Resources Guide. Copies of the Connect with Us
brochure, intended for individuals new to the Town, were distributed and consisted of a list such
as community based organizations, churches and activities in Mashpee. Ms. Wilson inquired
whether the Chamber had been contacted regarding their available resources. Ms. Waterman
noted that the Senior Center should be identified as Mashpee Council on Aging, under volunteer
opportunities. It was noted that, when creating a list, it was necessary to be inclusive of
everyone. Ms. Doyle inquired whether the Committee liked the layout of the brochure, if it were
to be used for the Resource list. Ms. Nadeau noted that draft provided better clarity for
Committee members. Ms. Wilson indicated that, as a Town Committee, more thought would be
needed regarding liabilities and inclusiveness and the possibility of adding a disclaimer. Ms.
Waterman referenced language issues such as "elder"in place of the preferred "older adult." It
was suggested that the Committee review the resources already provided by the Chamber of
Commerce and invite Mary Lou Palumbo to address the Committee. Ms. Nadeau added that
some people may not visit the Chamber for information, but would be more likely to visit Town
buildings. The Vice Chair noted her preference for the"Who We Are" section, noting the
possibility of creating a brochure specific to the role of the MIDC. There will be further
discussion at the next meeting.
Veterans Parking-Mr. Horner shared an image of a parking sign located at Botelho's
which allowed for"Super Hero" parking for Veterans, Active Duty,EMTs, Police Force and
Firefighters. Mr. Horner learned that the idea came from another state, but had been very well
received by customers. Mr. Botelho offered his support by letter to Mr. Horner as a
representative to the MIDC, for the veterans designated parking. Mr. Horner read Mr. Botelho's
letter. Committee members expressed appreciation for the letter.
Ms. Waterman inquired whether the proposal had expanded and Mr. Horner responded that it
had not. Mr. Horner and Ms. Landry met with the Town Manager and Assistant Town Manager,
who requested that data and additional information be collected to support the proposal, such as
the number of daily visits by Veterans, existing parking spaces (27 spaces with 3 handicap). Mr.
Horner has developed a chart to identify usage, noting that he has seen no more than 5 or 6 cars
parked in front, during Town open hours. Mr. Collins liked the design of the sign. It has been
confirmed that Falmouth did not have similar signage. It was unlikely that a space would be
allowed at South Cape Beach. Mr. Horner reported that that there were currently 386 Veterans
beach stickers, but Active Duty did not qualify. There have been some issues reported, such as
individuals wanting to give their beach sticker to a family member. There were approximately
2,000 veterans located in Mashpee but 1,234 accounted for in the census. Mr. Horner, as a
private citizen, intends to reach out to other communities to promote a parking space set aside for
Veterans, which was supported by Mr. Collins.
M-. Horner reached out to the Veterans Office in Hyannis to acquire a letter of support and to
schedule a meeting to discuss the parking proposal further. Mr. Horner also distributed
information about Welcome Home bonuses, though it was noted that information distribution
2
