The Chair said the Garden Funding was approved for CPC funds and they are working right now to <br /> beef up the existing gardens and construct new ones in the fall after the gardening season. <br /> Mashpee CWMP: <br /> DNR Restoration/Shellfish Program: Update <br /> Ashley stated the Board of Selectmen suspended a commercial shellfish permit on January 28. This <br /> individual sold 10,000 oysters at market where we don't have any commercial oystering in Mashpee. <br /> This Monday we had two grants that went forward with their applications. One is for a 7-acre <br /> expansion at Hamblin's Pond and the other for 1.1 acre at Ockway Bay. She noted Brewster will be <br /> donating 300,000 oysters to the Town and we are bartering with our old equipment because we have <br /> redone our entire system. Rick said this will make up for the fact that a lot of our oysters were stolen <br /> in big quantities which is being investigated. Rick noted Ashley is doing a very good job and getting a <br /> handle on the situation and getting it under control. <br /> IMA's with other towns: Waquoit Bay Watershed—No Update <br /> Planning-funding for sewers; connections with private sewers: No Update <br /> Mashpee Nutrient Control Bylaw: Update <br /> The Chair stated there has been no violations since the first year. Drew McManus said Conservation <br /> has been vigilant about the lawn standards within 50 feet of a wetland. <br /> Town-Wide Stormwater Management Plan: Update <br /> No Meeting has been scheduled. <br /> DNR and PALS Pond & Estuary Water Quality Monitoring: Update <br /> Rick York stated they are at low level for water monitoring in the winter and are gearing up for the <br /> intensive summer monitoring. <br /> Rick also said they met with the Friends of Santuit Pond regarding the solar bees. The maintenance <br /> people will look at them in March and will check them out for solar bee performance. <br /> REPORTS <br /> Conservation Department Report: <br /> Herring Run Fish Ladder Improvements; Herring Count Program w/APCC: Update <br /> Andrew McManus, Conservation Agent, gave an update on the Herring Run Fish Ladders into John's <br /> Pond and Santuit Pond. He stated the Conservation Department has received mitigation funding in the <br /> amount of$40,000 from Southport LLC as part of the DEP water withdrawal permit for irrigation of the <br /> golf course. The funding will be used to address the erosion problems in the immediate down stream <br /> embankment areas around the fish ladder on the Quashnet River at John's Pond. The Conservation <br /> Department will draft and send out an RFP for consulting/contracting services to address the erosion <br /> issues. <br /> Andrew McManus noted USDA/NRCS is funding a hydrologic and hydraulic study of the existing <br /> John's Pond fish ladder spillway. The BSC Group is currently conducting the study. The total cost of <br /> the study is $31,500. NRCS will reimburse the town for this cost. The results of the study will dictate <br /> whether amendments to the current spillway will be necessary. <br /> Drew McManus stated he sent a letter to NRCS regarding the Santuit Pond Fish ladder regarding what <br /> we have observed over the last few years and they wrote a letter stating they appreciate our <br /> 2 <br />
