There is still fecal coliform counts
in the Mashpee River at about the limit for shellfish, Mr.
York noted that in lieu of the $24, 000 available from Windchi es
for water quality studies, he pursued etting quotes for a
sampling program for 14 stations weekly per year plus a sampling
series over tidal cycles and other exploratory samples for
coliform bacteria at $3. 50 per test and materials costing $8, 400.
For sediment analysis of the muck to see what we could do with
regard to dredging, he would like to do 10 sarwples at a cost
of $150 per sample ( $1,500) , making the total cost $10, 000.
Mr. York reported on the propagation program stating that he
is going to leave the quohog seed in the trays over the winter
and plant them in the spring; we can plant then in areas that
are Barone to ice. Mir. Homeyer
asked if Mr. York is redoing what has already been dome; Mr.
York stated no , that he will be trying to determine the sources
in the high count areas. Mr. Hanks stated that the problem
with the previous studies is they were very sparse, not enough
frequency of testing, and Mr. York added they did not go up
high enough into the stream. Dr. Gordon reported he learned
from the Dredge Committee meeting he attended that MEPA and
Army Corp want to be involved in the set up of the sampling
program for the dredging application because there have been
problems in the past; Mr. York will contact both agencies,
SATE COMMITTEE REPORTS
Inland Waterways: Mr. Home er had nothing to report.
Popponesset day: Mr, Silver reported ars extreme low tide.
aqu it Bay: Mr. Fordham was absent for this report.
County Dredge, ,Statins: Dr. Gordon reported on the County Dredge
Committee meeting he attended today.
