MA HPBE TOWN HALL BUILDING COMMITTEE Minutes for July 19, 1995 Page • They did have a concern regarding the HVAC system that the -engineering subcontractor had installed and that they were not satisfied with it; • The system the Town Manager had reported was the sane one that Donharn and Sweeney had proposed for the current project; • The Town Manager had stated that D nh rn & Sweeney's services had been terminated at the punch list stage as their building committee had run out of money; • There had been a personal conflict with the project ;manager and the chairman of the committee; • When asked if they would consider Donham. and Sweeney for a project in the future, they had stated they would. Bob Fox reported that he had called regarding the south Hadley Police Station project that Donham and Sweeney had completed. Bob reported that he had been told through a subcontractor that there had been a problem with communications. Bob called the Chief of Police and reported the following: . • They had a problem with the engineering subcontractor; • They had a major problem with the location of the system, • This had been a two story, brick building of new construction; • Donham and sweeney had done good layout work and that the project had come in under the quotes when it had gone out to bid; • The Police Chief had recommended to try and get local subcontractors as they had discovered that commuting had become an issue during construction; • Overall Donham and Sweeney were good, but they were still not pleased with the engineering firm that they had used; 40 They would consider using Donharn and Sweeney again in the future. Bob Whritenour reported that he had spoken with the Town Administrator in Harwich regarding the $3,000,000 Fire station project that Donham and sweeney had worked on. Bob stated that he was told the following: 0 They had conducted reference checks on Donham and sweeney prior to the awarding of their contract and that Donham and Sweeney had received very high recommendations; a Brett Donham had been heavily involved in their project and they would rant thea as one of the best; There had been a couple of problems with the design, i.e.} the garage doors the original ones designed had been too small; and with the exhaust system .the subcontractors apparently had had a problem with the sole source identified in the specifications, • Regarding construction management, they had done a very thorough job.
