Regarding the Mashpee Rotary, the Chair will resend the email from the Cape Cod
Commission so that comments could be submitted regarding a possible conceptual plan they could be
developing. Mr. Balzarini felt that it could be another 5-6 years before they could start any work on
the rotary, due to other projects being completed in the State, including the Route 151 project. There
was also discussion about the bridges at the Canal.
The Chair referenced Monday's meeting and invited Selectman O'Hara to comment on the
meeting. Selectman O'Hara indicated his belief that housing and the creation of jobs were intertwined
and it was his opinion that there was not an affordable living wage to allow families to afford the
housing on Cape. Selectman O'Hara suggested an idea that employers offer a housing subsidy to
allow better access to housing, possibly in partnership with the Town. In addition, Selectman O'Hara
noted that the Town owned land and suggested the possibility that it could be developed. There was
also discussion about the necessity of inclusionary zoning to require affordable housing. Selectman
O'Hara also suggested offering mixed affordable housing, including families and over 55, rather than
one or the other. Selectman O'Hara felt it would be beneficial to think outside of the box. There was
also discussion about Mashpee's woodland trails and the Mashpee River and improvements that could
be made to the river.
2
