4 Community Preservation Committee Minutes January 24, 2019 COMMUNICATIONS & CORRESPONDENCE The Community Preservation Committee was noted to have received recent correspondence from Town Counsel in response to guidance requested regarding several pending projects. NEW BUSINESS Continued Deliberations on May 2019 Project Proposals: Mashpee War Monument: $285,000: Motion made by Mr. Hyde to amend the previous vote of the CPC regarding this project, and vote to approve and recommend to the May 2019 Special Town Meeting the amount of $285,000 for the Mashpee War Monument project as identified. Motion seconded by Mr. Smith. VOTE: Unanimous. 7-0. Roll Call Vote: Mr. Gottlieb,yes Mr. Hyde,yes Mr. Halpern,yes Mr. Larkin,yes Ms. Waygan,yes Mr. Harsch,yes Mr. Smith,yes Opposed, none Mashpee 150th Anniversary: $100,000: It is the opinion of Town Counsel, the use of CPA funds for Town anniversary celebratory events and publicly therefor would not be a permissible use. CPA funds can be used for the acquisition, preservation, rehabilitation and restoration of historic resources as defined under M.G.L., Chapter 4413, Section 2: A building, structure, vessel, real property, document or artifact that is listed on the state register of historic places or has been determined by the local historic preservation commission to be significant in the history, archaeology, architecture, or culture of a city or town. The Historical Commission remitted communication to the CPC dated January 3, 2019 regarding the importance of celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Town of Mashpee's incorporation. Motion made by Ms. Waygan to take no action on the Mashpee 150th Anniversary project. Motion seconded by Mr. Halpern. VOTE: Unanimous. 6-0-1.
