3
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
August 19, 2019
APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS
Public Comment:
David Weeden of 53 Main Street requested action on the draft Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
associated to the Restoration of the Mashpee Parsonage. Mr. Weeden indicated he would like to move forward
with the conditions assessment. Town Manager Rodney C. Collins indicated that Town Council is currently
reviewing the draft, to be reconciled with the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe. After discussions, it is hopeful this
matter would be ready for possible action at the Selectmen's September 9, 2019 meeting.
In other business, Mr. Weeden indicated he endorses the first phase of funding proposed for wastewater as the
environment is deteriorating the waterways and bays. Mr. Weeden stated it is sad that our rivers are one of the
worst, and it is hopeful the Town of Mashpee will work to solve this critical issue.
Arden Russell Cadrin, Stratford Ridge voiced support of the proposed Accessory Bylaw and advocated for the
development of accessory apartments as a by-right use. Ms. Cadrin stated that it is a simple process easy to
navigate.
Ms. Cadrin also conveyed the Board of Selectmen's agenda is not readily accessible to the residents, only a few
hours prior to a meeting. Town Manager Rodney C. Collins indicated the Town Clerk's Office is charged with
this function. There is no failure by his staff. To rectify this issue, the Selectmen's agenda will also be posted
online by his staff on Thursday. The Selectmen's Agenda packet would be available online on Monday.
Agendas are also duly posted on the Town Bulletin Board at the Mashpee Town Hall.
Melinda Baker, 73 South Sandwich Road expressed appreciation to the Planning Board for presenting the
Accessory Bylaw to the Town. The Accessory Bylaw as proposed is specific and it will make it easier for
residents who would like to stay in the Town of Mashpee. It was noted the Board of Selectmen was in receipt of
additional favorable comments in support of the Accessory Bylaw as well.
COMMUNICATIONS & CORRESPONDENCE
The Board of Selectmen was in receipt of communication from the Mashpee Water District dated
August 16, 2019 regarding the issue of sewers for the Town of Mashpee. (enclosed)
The Board of Selectmen is anticipated to discuss this matter on Thursday, August 22, 2019.
