Presentations on Staffing Wastewater Treatment Facilities 0 wn Staff or Contract 0- erators, Case
Studies of Falmouth and Chatham. Presenters:
As the Board of Selectmen continued, their studies on the matter of wastewater, the approaches to staffing
of wastewater treatment plants were addressed by representatives, from the Towns of Falmouth and
Chatham. Falmouth utilizes, town employees while Chatham uses a contract service provider.
Ray Jack, Falmouth DPW Director:7
Ray Jack, the Director of Public Works gave an overview of'the Town of Falmouth wastewater treatment
facility situated on 225 acres of municipal lands. Sequencing Batch Reactors (SBR) is used at the
Falmouth treatment/discharge plant located in.West Falmouth near the divided highway across from
residential home areas.
esi
The treatment process using SBR is similar to a washing machine with processes combined all-in-one
using a denitrification filter to treat effluent. It was disruptive to the community, and it was costly,, but the
'benefit outweighed the alternatives. Deep trenching; 22',was required for piping.
