Water District which is 3 dimensional and should give us an idea
of where the bottom is . Peter Dinizio said is has been dose in
Marion.
Dennis said it seems like we ' re polluting the bottom of the water
table .
Brad asked what the difference is between this method and Piping
it directly into the sound'
Torn said a lot of treatment goes on In the soil. . Drinking
quality water is coming out of these plants but it still has some
nitrogen in it.
Brad asked what the approach is of the sewer Commission. Are we
going to start looking into taking over some of the plants in
town?
Tom said he would like all the members to have an understanding
of the mechanics of what they are dealing with first .
Tom said Mashpee Commons , in order to do the project they are
proposing they have to sell individual lots. That is not
permissible with a sewage treatment plant. The Boch Center has a.
land lease arrangement presently. In the past , Fields Point has
worked with the town on these issues . They participated in
study to determine an appropriate place for a treatment plant in
that area. The best site was the back side of the industrial
dark but then they put the well there . Right now Mashpee
Commons is avoiding that question.
Brad asked if any testing has been done at Cotuit Bay condos'
Tory said no . There is no human health issue there so no one has
the authority to do die testing . The KV study mentioned that
area, but not the Condo ' s by name .
Brad asked what the sewer Commission can do?
Torn said we can ask for a few million dollars from the town t
build a sewage treatment plant . or we can ask town meeting to
condemn the existing plants and take them over but we would only
be taking a headache away from Ma.shpee Commons ,
Brad said the Mashp e Commons plant was in non-compliance for
months , can we then take itover?
Tom said no . They were not in non-compliance .
Brad said the Mashpee River and Shoestring Bay are major
problems . The sewer Commission was going to look into the
possibility of taking some plants over and then hooking up near
by problem developments .
Tom said the plants are sized for those developments . After
years , if they don' t reach their capacity, we could consider
hooking up additional units .
Brad suggested talking to willowbend about them expansion
schedule .
'foam said if we hook other units in now, then their units won' t be
2
