LOUIS BERGER AND ASSOCIATES
Present, representing Louis Berger were Joe Pratt, fir. Benward Hay and Charlie McKinley.
Louis Berger is an environmental engineering firm with'70 offices worldwide. They concentrate
on water quality and wastewater engineering. They provide total pro'ect management, identify
with clients and keep on budget and schedule.
enward Hay would be the project manager for this project.
Ivey Goals of this Project and Team:
- focus on nitrogen removal -at all tunes
- solid understanding of nitrogen sources and loads
-flexibility and creativity: they will interact with other members of the teann, evaluate as it is
going along and adjust accordingly.
- Communication: throughout the project with Sewer Commission, Dr. Howes, watershed
Management Committee and Town of Mashpee, so that the LCP is being addressed.
Public: a decentralized system will only work if the public is involved.
Key Approach:
evaluate all existing conditions and narrow done the information and alternative concepts to
have a recommended plan that will work in the present and for the long tern.
Phases:
- determine load entering water bodies
-look at alternatives,to address the need
- look at alternative information from first and second phases to find alternatives that could work
for the town
recommendation for nitrogen management plan
- They are aware of accelerated schedule for phase VI-the pipeline. However, they suggest
addressing it in phase 5 & 6 and integrating the pipeline in the modeling that fir. Howes is
doing.
They discussed the model runs which will occur in each phase and the public meeting that are
planned at various stages. They outlined the public meeting which would take place during each
phase, so that the public is integrated into the process.
They will establish the total loads coning from each embay-ment both paint source and non-
point source. They will determine the new, lower loads from various alternatives and give to Dr.
Howes for use in his model. After Dr. Howes' model runs, they will eliminate scenarios that
don't give results you are looking for. Hopefully there will be end loads in each segment that
vll meet the goals of nitrogen reduction.
They presented a chart of the various alternative technologies.
Experience of the team: the team consists of planners, scientists, wastewater engineers all
working in the same office enabling them to respond quickly to the town. There is tight budget
and schedule controls. They will be flexible,, accommodating the needs of the project, the town,
the public and the envirornnent.
Project Experience:
-Montego Bay: the project included nutrient loading, modeling, coastal assessment, engineering
