brochure. The draft was reviewed by Committee members, changes were recommended, and the
final draft would be shared with the Town to seek approval. A draft with corrections, now titled
"Connecting with Each Other, appears in the file.
Community Awareness Campaign-Ms. DeBoer reported that a high school senior
would be creating a quilt celebrating the 1501' Anniversary of Mashpee, integrating some of the
thoughts generated from the campaign, as part of her Senior Project. Ms. Gail Wilson confirmed
that there had been an article in the paper about the campaign and Ms. DeBoer noted that
participation was low, except for in the school system. It was noted that, in the future, it may be
helpful to more clearly explain the intent of the project and make use of further public marketing
such as social media and local TV. There was discussion regarding the need to use social media
to connect with potential interested Mashpee residents and the Chair recommended creating a
subcommittee to consider the matter further. There was discussion about MIDC hosting their own events or collaborating with
other organizations. The Chair also announced that she would be attending the Immigration
Refugee Alliance/International Institute of New England workshop next Saturday, titled Suitcase
Stories Unpacked, designed to educate individuals to tell their stories. Ms. DeBoer added that
she attended an information program that would train immigrant students in schools to become
storytellers.
Human Rights Academy-The Chair confirmed that the Human Rights Club had been
reinstated and that Mashpee had the largest attendance, with 10-12 students, at the Human Rights
Academy event. The Chair stated that she had agreed to attend two of the Club's meetings per
month and inquired whether the Committee would vote to appoint her a liaison to the group.
MOTION: Ms. DeBoer made a motion to appoint Chairwoman Stevens as the liaison to
the Mashpee Middle/High School Human Rights Club. Ms. Gail Wilson seconded the
motion. All voted unanimously.
The Chair shared her experiences from attending the Academy.
Student Representative Update-The Chair reported that it was the Town's opinion that
since student positions were non-voting, it was unnecessary to change the wording in the MIDC
membership.
New Voting Member Search Status-The Chair did not submit Mr. Fand's resume to the
Board of Selectmen as he was out of the country and unable to meet with the Committee, but she
2
