MASHPEE ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS
MEETING MINUTES
MAY 13,2020
Kevin said there are arborvitaes about 6 ft. tall within that 10 ft. buffer already.
Charlie Maintanis said that the only issue he could see on the plan was the chicken coop.
He had no further comments.
Ron suggested the applicant could plant additional arborvitaes 20 ft. 22 ft. located in
between the existing trees 23 ft. off the rear property line giving the abutter a 25 ft.setback
that would provide a double row of trees, a fence, and a tree line with another set of trees
that would fill in the space between the existing trees.
Kevin said that his client is not willing to go beyond the 19 ft. setback. Mr. Kirrane said
that space is reserved for parking of vehicles.
The Board reviewed the drainage plan and the dashed line showing the gravel area. Ron
mentioned that trees could be planted within that space and would still provide enough
available parking.
Kevin said that his client has.already planted 30 or so trees, and the impact that this lot has
on its most immediate abutter is probably on the westerly side of the lot. His client has no
interest going further into the lot area to plant additional trees.
Chairman Furbush agreed with Ron but would like to see trees planted within that 19 ft.
near the gravel area.Mr.Blaisdell agreed with Jon.He said that it's a very fair compromise.
Sharon said she likes the second row of trees in the 19 ft.
Attorney Senie said that he thanked the Board members who expressed additional
plantings. He said it would be very helpful if he could see a landscape plan that would
depict what will be the actual plan if the Special Permit is granted.
Jonathan asked Attorney Kirrane if his, client could provide a revised landscape plan with
the suggestions from the Board. Attorney Kirrane said that is not necessary because there
have already been additional plantings. His client could supplement additional plantings
within that 19 ft., but to spend more money on a landscape plan to show those arborvitaes
is not necessary.
The Board had a discussion about adding the row of trees to the existing site plan. Mr.
Blaisdell suggested that it could be a condition. Attorney Kirrane said that his client does
not accept that request.
Attorney Senie said his clients also sought a more substantial privacy fence. He also asked
for reasonable operating hours. He suggested 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through
Saturday, and no work on Sunday and Massachusetts Holidays.
3
