To bring forth <br /> a proclamation in this climate may create a back-lash on the national level. <br /> As discussion continued it was recommended that appreciation be given to the Fire Department as well. <br /> It was'su' g� gestedthe Board be careful in bringing out a national conversation topic to Mashpee that may place the <br /> n tow in a difficult position. There has been no discussion regarding defunding the Police. <br /> Under the direction of Rodney C. Collins, the former Police Chief and the current Police Chief Scott Carline,the <br /> police are more engaged in the community. The department is professional and it is well run and well managed <br /> bringing forth a well-trained police department. It was recommended the proclamation be balanced to reinforce <br /> the*mutual respect for the police department while maintaining the civil rights of all citizens. It should. also <br /> maintain due process to make the community better and stronger by not placing one side against another. This is <br /> not the dominate feature of the Mash pee community. <br /> The Board of Selectmen agreed to move forward with a draft proclamation; starting with the police department. <br /> Selectman David W. Weeden voiced opposition to the proclamation. <br /> Discussion of an Alcohol Nit, <br /> The Board of Selectmen re-visited a former I d*scuss*ion regarding the ban of alcohol nips in the Town of Mashpee <br /> due to*unnecessary littering. It was agreed Town Counsel would be consulted regarding a draft of a bylaw <br /> provision that would be considered for inclusion in the October Town.Meeting warrant. It was noted the deadline <br /> for approval of the warrant is September 14, 2020. <br /> As an option, the Board of Selectmen as the Licensing Authority could hold a public hearing on this matter to <br /> disclose the intent to regulate alcohol nips in the Town of Mashpee with the annual liquor license renewal. <br /> This action was noted to have moved forward in the City of Chelsea at their annual liquor license renewal process. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Gottlieb to schedule a Public Hearing on creating a.rule to eliminate the <br /> Sale of`. ►lcohol Nips based on the Chelsea model. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman O'Hara. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman Cotton,yes Selectman O'Hara,yes Selectman Sherman,yes <br /> Selectman Gottlieb, yes Selectman Weeden,yes Opposed, none <br />
