also just recently come up with the board and why as a town should we take
dramatic measures which will have detrimental monetary effects on local
businesses which have given back to the town for years.? I feel as if our trash
issue needs more vetting and discussion versus taking such vast measures against
one possible industry. We as busines owners have employed local members of
the community as well as supported local charities and events with donations and
feel that the issue needs more vetting and discussion than just simply banning
nips. And instead of taking from the local community why not give back and
create new jobs for those who are not currently working and implement new
trash receptacles where supposed problems are an issue and hire people to
monitor the situation at hand? We would be helping our community with the
trash problem and offering jobs to those who have been-unemployed in this time
of need. 4.
Some key points in banning this size will cause consumers with alcohol related
issues to "buy up" on the size they purchase being a 100m1, 200m1 or 375m1 and
we will have larger format bottles in our woods and trails as well as having those
who have issues drink more and my concern would be that it would be a larger
public safety issue as people would now only have larger format bottles to choose
from. Keeping nips will also prevent potential drunken driving cases. Banning
nips I do not feel will change the drinking habits or our local community,
Chelsea is the only city in the State of MA that.has banned 50m1 nips. The town of
Mashpee and the city of Chelsea are entirely different localities. Chelsea is one of
the most densely populated cities in the state with one of highest unemployment
rates and homeless rates in the state as well as crime rates with more liquor
stores per square miles than Mashpee. So how can we compare our quiet
Mashpee TOWN Community to Chelsea??
I also feel that as American Citizens our Constitutional "right to choose" will be
taken from us. If I want to have a different flavor vodka every night or a gin or
whiskey et and don't have the financial ability to purchase a larger format bottle
my choice will now be taken from me. And what if I simply want to try something
without spending the additional money before I buy a larger bottle and see if I like
11
