the water would be used as the only source of irrigation on the course or in addition to their existing
irrigation. It was noted that a negotiation process would be necessary since golf courses will have
concerns such as the appearance of the course. Likewise, DEP will have considerations such as the
amount of stormwater, treated effluent and additional irrigation being added. Mr. Berelli noted that
irrigation would typically be reduced and Mr. Gregg agreed, adding that it could depend if the flow
was reduced or eventually increased, and also the design of the system. Bill Hall added that if the
town controls effluent disposal and the golf course controls irrigation, there will be competing needs
for the same land. An agreement will be necessary to develop a mutual understanding or to determine
who would be in control.
It was agreed that the Commission needed to first determine the water capacity in the ground, with an
assumption that there was access to the land. Mr. Gregg continued that he took a very broad view of
the sites, without a detailed survey of the land or consideration of wetland or setback issues, and
provided a conservative view of the sites. Topography was included but there was no overlay of
plumes. In the locations north of John's Pond, Mr. Gregg considered both subsurface and open sand
beds, which may offer a higher recharge rate but will require a buffer. Mr. Fudala noted that much of
the sites are already buffered with Conservation land or the Massachusetts Military Reservation
(NWR)but Mr. Gregg noted that negotiations would be necessary since the sites are landlocked. Mr.
Howes questioned the total mgd for Mashpee and Mr. Gregg responded that the original range was 2-2
'/z mgd throughout the Town.
Back Road Site 3
-8.2 acres adjacent to MMR and within the safety zone of the munitions storage facility
-Landlocked
-Major topographical issues
-90,000-110,000 gpd subsurface,400,000 gpd open sand beds
-.4 mgd open sandbeds(8)with no regrading of the entire.site
-A culvert is on the property that directs runoff to John's Pond and two pipes
-Buffer added as conservative measure, despite buffering from adjacent properties
-2 foot contour
-Least likely to be given up by Conservation as the property was initially slated for donation and is
located adjacent to John's Pond Park
-Located west of Moody Pond
Back Road Site 2
-24.77 acres located partially in the Moody Pond recharge area
-Address is Off Back Road as indicated by Office of the Assessor
-Landlocked by Conservation land
-MMR security road runs through property if inaccurate Assessors' maps are to be believed
-1.85 mgd open sandbed which is the largest
-24.77 acres
j -25 foot change in grade
-No residential properties nearby
-Buffer added around the entire site
-Potential to add more disposal areas
Back Road Site 1
-5.2 acres on north side of Back Road
- Trash dump issue that had been cleaned up by MMR
2
