43
Report of the Harbor blaster
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
Town of Mashpee:
More and larger buoys were purchased and set out to
indicate what little channel there is into Popponesset Bay.
The cost of these ,buoys and their maintenance is shared
with the Town of Barnstable. These additional buoys strained
our budget to excess but I feel they are a good investment.
The prospects are brighter for getting some dredging
done in Popponesset Bay. The Waterways Committees of
Mashpee and Barnstable -have been working together toward
this end.
Buoys were placed in Waquoit Bay to mark the narrow
channel around Seconsett Point into Little River. It has been
ten years since this channel was dredged and it should be
done again. More and larger boats, both pleasure and com-
mercial, are coming through this channel. There is increas-
ing demand for more buoys and markers to guide the way
up Great River as well as Little River.
I am happy to report that the Town of Falmouth has
now appropriated the funds to install a lighted beacon on
the jetties at the entrance to Waquoit Bay. Their Waterways
Committee inform me that this will be accomplished early
this spring.
Complaints about speedsters and water skiers continue
to increase. At my request inspectors from the Mass. Division
Of Motor Boats patrolled our area a half dozen times. They
are very helpful in bringing some of the violators to task, and
the word spreads around to others.
Pleasure boating continues to increase by leaps and
bounds and I believe it is to our advantage to develop our
waterways.
Respectfully submitted,
GORDON CROWELL
