E
44
Report of the Shellfish Constable
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen and
the Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:
I hereby submit my report for the year ending December
31, 1965.
We had a very good year for scallops in both Waquoit
and Popponsset Bays.
I sincerely think that things worked out very satisfactor-
ily for both Mashpee and Barnstable by opening the whole
bay for scalloping to both towns.
The area that we closed for clams seems to be progress-
ing very well; but the flat at the Big Thatch will have to be
closed again this Spring as the clams there have nearly run
out; it was dug very hard this past season.
Quahogs are not too plentiful, perhaps within another
year we shall have to replant.
Oysters are still very scarce.
I want to thank the fishermen and all of my deputies for
their assistance and fine cooperation.
Miles Traveled -2,796
Shellfish Permits issued:
Resident 420 @ $1.00 $420.00
Non -Resident 103 @ 2.00 206.00
Commercial 13 @ 10.00 130.00
$756.00
Total Permits -536
Respectfully submitted,
JOHN T.
