The Moderator then proceeded to read the various items and the amounts requested and recommended in each case ® The first ?old was on the amount of $11 , 880.00 by the Highway Depar- ent The second hold was on the amount of $20 8 w 0fl by the Board of Health. The gird hold was also by the Board of Health in the amount of $580.00. The Moderator called on the Highway Surveyor to explain why he wised a hold on tine amount of $11 , 880.00. George Green: !`ors Moderator I asked this be held rincipally because I did not believe that the people understood the purpose for asking for this amount of money. I have no great grievances because the people have done well by me . But t;,,ere are many duties that I am asked to perform which actually do not fall within the province of the Highway Department . We are asked to C E clears the beaches and to haul stuff around from there ; we are asked to take care of Town Landingg, and to see that thev are f cleaned and in good shape ; we have been asked to use our men and materials for clean up weeks over he entire Town, to !Paul away trash and debris that people otherWise would not have been able to get rid of.
