The gird hold was also by the Board of Health in the <br /> amount of $580.00. The Moderator called on the Highway Surveyor <br /> to explain why he wised a hold on tine amount of $11 , 880.00. <br /> George Green: !`ors Moderator I asked this be held rincipally <br /> because I did not believe that the people understood the purpose <br /> for asking for this amount of money. I have no great grievances <br /> because the people have done well by me . But t;,,ere are many <br /> duties that I am asked to perform which actually do not fall <br /> within the province of the Highway Department . We are asked to C <br /> E <br /> clears the beaches and to haul stuff around from there ; we are <br /> asked to take care of Town Landingg, and to see that thev are f <br /> cleaned and in good shape ; we have been asked to use our men and <br /> materials for clean up weeks over he entire Town, to !Paul away <br /> trash and debris that people otherWise would not have been able <br /> to get rid of. And there are any number of extra services large <br /> and small which we are requested to perform which do not fall <br /> in the line of our regular duties and we have complied as best <br /> we could: If we must do these things I think we should be <br />
