Page 9 . Annual Town Meeting - Mashpee Monday March 5 , 1973 <br /> E <br /> Article 7 : <br /> had advised that the account could not be carried over and must <br /> be closed out . Therefore the amount of $15 ,000.00 was asked <br /> for because we try to keep always $10, 000.00 in this account <br /> and $5,000.00 more was needed to cover the first six months in <br /> 1974. The Moderator then asked if the question and hold on <br /> item eight could be removed and it was okay that it might be . <br /> Item 32 was then the next on which a "hold" was called. <br /> The next two holds were on items 40 and 41 and at this point <br /> Mr. Homeyer rose to question the salary of Deputy Chief. <br /> The Moderator quieted him down by reminding him that it was the <br /> rule that all 'the holds would be considered in their turn <br /> after the completion of the reading of the budget . <br /> The Moderator then proceeded to read to the end of the <br /> budget. The first item taken up was item 32, the matter of <br /> wages f6r the Planning Board. Mr. Marsters , Chairman cf the <br /> Planning Board rose to explain that they needed money for a <br /> clerk because the Manning Board among other things had three <br /> meetings a month; the meetings were of about three hours <br /> duration; the clerk would have about three hours or more <br /> work to do at home ; minutes of the meeting had to be written; <br /> correspondence had to be attended to; the agendas of the <br /> meeting had to be taken care of; the advertisements had to <br /> be taken care of, etc. Mr. Marsters went on to observe that <br /> $91 .00 had been spent in 1971 : and that in 1972 $.300.00 had <br /> been necessary; the work load had so increased and there is <br /> so much work to be done requiring so much more time or hours <br /> spent doing this work that he, Mr . Marsters , wished to have the <br /> figure returned to $900.00 for the eighteen months as requested. <br /> Mr. Garland then arose and did some figuring to show <br /> that the $900.00 asked for would be three times the amount <br /> that was required in the past years . Mr. Garland ask Mr. Marsters <br /> if his work load had increased to that extent. Mr. Marsters <br /> rose and said "yes" . It would be necessary, he stated, that <br />
