Constable commented that Barnstable tried something like that.
Mr. Thomas said we want some guys to put money at in their pockets too.
Constable said if we can move the bigger stuff, then that's less feed the town needs to purchase.
Mr. Pocknett said I think we have 200-250 quahogs, but I think they are size 11 or 12. The
smaller we made it the better it worked. We go dry once in a while, not much mortality, if any.
Old Business:
-Update on Seed Exchange
Constable said we traded 3 million 4's 5's and a few 6's back to ARC and exchanged for 2
million R8's now, and another 1 million R6's in the spring. Because of the pandemic, the oyster
market dropped down a bit, so ARC was sitting on a lot of oyster seed, so we were able to get a
good deal. They were out of clam seed.
New Business:
-Boosting Shellfish Committee Participation
Constable stated we need to get all facets of people in the industry in town to get
involved.
-Membership Review
The group discussed the breakdown of the committee members. Mr. Buddy is interested
in the Tribal Liaison role. He needs to write a letter of interest to the Board of Selectmen.
Mr. Thomas suggested having Darryl move up to a member status.
Motion: Mr. Marques moved to change Darryl Christensen from an associate to a member
status of the Commission. Mr. Holmes seconded.
Vote: Unanimous
-New Members
Constable will look into possibly advertising in the paper that we have positions on The
Commission open.
-Future meeting Schedule Changes
Constable said it was recently decided he's going to police academy and cannot attend
night meetings until March. Is it possible to have meetings during the day?
Everyone agreed 1 afternoon a month could work. It's only 4 meetings. November,
December, January, and February. The Commission decided they would meet 2„ d
Tuesday of the month during the day. Time TBD.
- RFP ideas for county grant
Barnstable County got a grant to help people working in shellfish fisheries that were
suffering from the effects of COVID. They are taking that money & buying from growers
that couldn't move over the season and sending to shucking houses and donating it to
food banks. We would have to turn in the application by the end of October. It's a chance
to apply if we think we have a good idea to use these funds in a way to help everyone.
