[Agenda tonic 3] Harbormaster News
Discussion: Jeff Smith emailed us after an inquiry last October that the "NO Wake "signs in the Narrows
were the same size and placement as previous years. He emailed today that the lake is now being patrolled
seven days a week and increased coverage is planned for the holiday weekend. He reminded us to call
Mashpee Police with any problems as dispatch will notify the patrolling harboimaster. His department
continues to emphasize safe boating practices.
Conclusions: There has been no change in signs posted near the narrows. There is increased Harbormaster
coverage this year.
[Agenda topic 4] Sewering
Discussion: There seems to be consensus that the watershed area around Mashpee Wakeby Lake, as well
as Santuit Pond, should be included in Phase 2 of the Mashpee sewer project.
Conclusions: The lake should be included in the sewer project earlier than originally planned.
[Agenda topic 5] Diagnostic Study ,
Discussion: Ashley Fisher, Department Head of Natural Resources, told us about a proposal coming
before October town meeting to fund a major diagnostic study of Mashpee Wakeby Lake. There will be some State funding.
Conclusions: A diagnostic study of MW lake will come before fall Town Meeting members.
[Agenda topic 61 Cyanobacteria in Mashpee
Wakeby Lake
Discussion: Andrew Gottlieb emailed the committee about the bacteria outbreak in September and the
CCT carried a tiny article on September 30, 2020. This is the
third lake in Mashpee to have Cyanobacteria. Both lakes were posted against pets and swimming. There has to be 2 weeks of clear
testing before the advisory can be lifted.
