-2-
Rosemary said that we have the paperwork that was submitted to get it on the
Massachusetts Register as an Historic Place which we should try to locate. Rosemary
said that the Meeting House is registered as an Historic Place, and she thinks that the
Schoolhouse is too. She suggested that we contact Sarah Korjeff at MA Historical.
Town Seal
Brian Weeden said that the committee has a meeting coming up within the next week.
Rosemary wanted to know if the citizens will have a say on the final seal, and Brian said
it will be presented for approval at a Town Meeting. Rosemary wanted to know if it
represented Mashpee's contemporary history, but no information is public yet.
Brian informed us that the Old Indian Meeting House would be celebrating Thanksgiving
on November 20t" at 10:30am and it would be open to the public. Following the
ceremony, they will have food, dancing and singing.
Brian informed us that Carlton Hendricks is the new contact for the dendrochronology
work that is going to be done in late November. He informed us that the Indian Museum
is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until December, and the contact would
be David Weeden. We discussed the new exhibits on display at the Museum, and Ava
expressed that she thought they were excellent quality.
Trout Pond Cottage
At our October Open House Richard met with Richard Klein who said we should contact
Tom Feronti of Mashpee Commons. He might be able to help us with transferring the
ownership. Rosemary suggested that we should contact the Chase family, the owners
of the property. They also donated the Schoolhouse. Katy Acheson, the new Director
of the Mashpee Chamber of Commerce, said they were not interested in the building,
but she might be able to help us in finding interested parties in relocating it. Rosemary
suggested that we contact the Assessor's office to find out who to contact about
preserving the cottage. Ava had been thinking about a few uses for the building. One
was that it could be the starting point of the future Signage Tour of the Historic District of
Mashpee.
Rosemary mentioned that the old name for Trout Pond was the Witch Place, and she
mentioned talking with Bill McKay who knows the history of that area before it was
called Trout Pond.
