F
The chairman recognized Attorney David Leightner,
representing the Demones and Talbotcharfenbergs . He
questioned whether or not the Planning- Board had the
authority to change the street name as this is a private
way.
He suggested that the current residents were not given
the opportufnity to select another street name, if in fact
the street name is going to be changed. There are
residents -of the Town that have lured in these hones for
seven and six years and have paid for the street signs..
Attorney Leightner asked that if one of the „'Pequot"
street names is changed, that one of the other strets be
changed and renamed "South" Pequot . He argued that by
changing the name completely the entire character of the
neighborhood will be changed and its reflection on the
re * dents who live there. He respectfully requested that
the street name not be changed. In the event the mama
change does through., he requested that the existing
homeowners be allowed to rename the street .
The Town Planner clarified that the -suggestion for the
name change initiated from the Town Clerk and the Fire
Department at the time the builder had previously appeared
before the Planning Board and the Board asked for a name
suggestion.
The Chairman indicated that the name "`Lori Lane" is
simply a suggestion (stated within the Public Notice) and
that the purpose of this Public Hearing is to make a
determination regarding an alternative name action taken by
the Planning Board.
In response to a question raised about the other
locations, the Town Planner explained they are located in
the: an.tuit Pond area. He further explained that the
Planning Board has the authority to name private -streets.
The Board of selectmen name public streets .
The Town planner also explained that the name Peluot
Avenue was created in 1927 as part of the original
subdivision and has been recorded/registered in the Land
Court . The location under discussion has been in- existence
for the longest period of time, however a sheet name
change would involve fewer residents .
6
